BOOM Live and Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR), Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) are excited to announce the launch of a Fact-Checking Training series in Sri Lanka in three languages: Sinhala, Tamil and English.
In the online training sessions, participants will be taught to verify text, image, video, and audio using digital forensic tools. They will also learn how to fact-check claims on the ground, as well as how to write fact-checks.
A key element of this program is support. BOOM and CIR will aid organisations to orient themselves towards IFCN-certification. We will also offer support in developing a leadership map and build towards diversity in hiring and coverage. The course finishes with case studies related to ethics in fact-checking.
The course is free and available to journalists and concerned citizens in Sri Lanka. We are limiting registrations to two per organisation in order to ensure all newsrooms and freelancers are represented fairly.
BOOM Live (boomlive.in) is an IFCN-accredited fact-checking organisation headquartered in Mumbai, India. The award-winning organisation runs fact-checking operations in four languages (English, Hindi, Bangla, Burmese) across three countries (India, Bangladesh, Myanmar).
Center for Investigative Reporting (cir.lk) is Sri Lanka’s first investigative journalism center aimed at promoting excellence in investigative journalism within Sri Lanka and the South Asian region.
The International Fact-Checking Network or IFCN (poynter.org/ifcn) is a unit of the Poynter Institute dedicated to bringing together fact-checkers worldwide.
