IFCN, BOOM Live and CIR to train local fact-checkers from June 10

BOOM Live and Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR), Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) will commence their first Fact-Checking Training Series in Sri Lanka on June 10.

The trainings will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English.

In the online training sessions, participants will be taught to verify text, image, video, and audio using digital forensic tools. They will also learn how to fact-check claims on the ground, as well as how to write fact-checks according to the highest global standards.

A key element of this program is support. BOOM and CIR will aid organizations to orient themselves towards IFCN-certification and the two organizations will develop a leadership map to facilitate the process. The course will end with case studies related to ethics in fact-checking.

The course is free and participants have been selected through a competitive process.

BOOM Live (boomlive.in) is an IFCN-accredited fact-checking organization headquartered in Mumbai, India. The award-winning organization runs fact-checking operations in four languages (English, Hindi, Bangla, Burmese) across three countries (India, Bangladesh, Myanmar).

Center for Investigative Reporting (cir.lk) is Sri Lanka’s first investigative journalism center aimed at promoting excellence in investigative journalism within Sri Lanka and the South Asian region.

The International Fact-Checking Network or IFCN (poynter.org/ifcn) is a unit of the Poynter Institute dedicated to bringing together fact-checkers worldwide.
