FactCheck.lk becomes Sri Lanka’s first IFCN-accredited fact-checking platform

FactCheck.lk has become the first Sri Lankan fact-checking website to become a verified signatory of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).

With this accreditation, FactCheck.lk run by Verite Research joins 16 IFCN-certified South Asian fact-checking platforms.

Launched in 2015, the IFCN was founded by the Poynter Institute, USA, to promote excellence in fact-checking within a fast-growing community.

The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) in collaboration with BOOM Live and IFCN ran a four-month information literacy program and an e-course in fact-checking and media pluralism. Over 60 individual participants and four organizations were part of the program which was designed to produce a community of ethical fact-checkers and to pave the way for IFCN-accredited fact-checking organizations in Sri Lanka.
