Green Dialogues Series: Topic: COVID-19 Impact on Sri Lanka Environment

The novel Coronavirus has caused debilitating, multiple impacts across the world resulting in multiple crises, be it in health, socio-economic or environmental spheres.

The environmental impacts alone are severe, whether direct or indirect. These impacts require insightful discussions in order to mitigate impacts and learn from the pandemic to forecast the future.

The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) intends to hold the very first Green Dialogue on “Covid-19 impacts on the Sri Lankan Environment” on 16 June 2021 from 6.00 pm – 7.30 am via zoom/FB-Live.

This discussion series is a public awareness initiative under CIR’s ‘Stories from the Margins’ program, supported by the Earth Journalism Network (EJN).

The dialogue will focus on key areas including the pandemic’s impact on the environment and health, remedial action and potential solutions, and the role of technology and innovation as a response to a global emergency.

The dialogue will be moderated by Dr. Jaya Shreedhar, Asia Health Media Advisor of Internews.

The expert panel will include: Dr. Inoka Suraweera, Consultant Community Physician, Environmental and Occupational Health Directorate, Ministry of Health, Dr. Rangika Bandara, Senior Lecturer of Department of Zoology and Environmental Management, University of Kelaniya and Dr. Hasintha Wijesekara, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Science to the Department of Natural Resources, Faculty of Applied Sciences, Sabaragamuwa University.
