Reporting from the Frontlines: Natural Disaster Safety for Women Journalists

The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) Sri Lanka invites applications from women in media and civil society to participate in a full-day, hands-on training on Natural Disaster Safety, scheduled for 12 November 2026 in Colombo.

The training aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to enhance their safety and preparedness when working in natural disaster contexts. It will cover disaster preparedness, safety measures, emergency response, risk management and self-care. Participants will also engage in the practical development of individual natural disaster safety plans, incorporating preparedness, emergency response and personal safety measures.

The training will be conducted in English and is supported by Vital Voices Global Partnership, as part of its global initiative, Crisis Readiness Training for Women Leaders.

A few seats are still available. Interested individuals are invited to send a request to cir@cir.lk, together with two work samples (media personnel only) and a brief expression of interest, on or before 6 November 2026, at 8.00 p.m.
