Lisa Millar & Amantha Perera – In Ten | Dart Centre Asia Pacific

In this series of In Ten, Lisa Millar speaks to prominent journalists and presenters around their experience and exposure to some of the more confronting sides of journalism.

When I first heard that the man who had given me my first news story to write had been attacked and that chances were slim of him surviving, I immediately put on a mask. I wore a mask of bullet proof journalism and tried to cover this intimately personal tragedy as a story.
Looking back, I guess, I did a reasonably good job with the reporting, spread over several years. Personally, that reportage broke me, it made me confront deep, dark fears that I had kept bottled inside me for years.

It was also the start of another journey. A journey of self-discovery. In this short podcast I talk about how the murder of Lasantha Wickrematunge promoted me to examine my craft of story-telling and how in doing that I became a better, honest, professional story-teller and a better human being.
