The Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) has launched the GIJN Academy, a global hub designed to connect, support, and expand the investigative journalism community. The initiative brings together early-career reporters, experienced investigative journalists, academics, trainers, and subject experts into a shared space for training, networking, and knowledge exchange. At a time marked by growing threats to democracy, climate challenges, disinformation, and risks faced by journalists in exile or under repression, the Academy aims to strengthen resilience by equipping journalists with the tools, skills, and networks needed to hold power to account.
Through a mix of masterclass videos, online and in-person training programs, webinars, and mentorship opportunities, GIJN Academy supports journalists at every stage of their careers. Its current offerings cover a wide range of topics, including investigative fundamentals, online scams, satellite imagery, corruption schemes, environmental crimes, AI and technology, data journalism, and more. The Academy emphasizes practical, up-to-date learning, encouraging collaboration among participants while fostering innovation and continuous professional development.
Looking ahead, GIJN plans to expand the Academy with new courses, multilingual resources, academic materials, and global partnerships with universities and journalism organizations. With a strong focus on accessibility, the initiative will provide free training manuals and resources while also offering customized and fee-based programs to ensure sustainability. By building a comprehensive curriculum and strengthening global collaboration, GIJN Academy seeks to empower journalists worldwide and contribute to greater transparency and accountability in the public interest.
