The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) has organized an expert panel discussion on “Campaign Finance Transparency Towards Electoral Accountability & Role of the Media” to educate a select group of journalists reporting on national politics, parliamentary affairs, and governance to be held on 23 November at Movenpick, Colombo 03.

As 2024 is likely to be an election year and there would be increased coverage on national politics and the electoral process, CIR is keen to create greater understanding among journalists on electoral accountability and to bring experts to share their insights towards better media coverage.

The panel of experts will explore the benefits of the recently introduced campaign finance law and how such accountability mechanisms are important to ensure electoral transparency and accountability.

Mahinda Deshapriya – Retired Commissioner of Elections

Mandana Ismail Abeywickrema – Editor-in-Chief, The Sunday Morning

Manjula Gajanayake – Executive Director, Institute for Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies (IRES)

Sankhitha Gunaratne, Deputy Executive Director, Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL)

The discussion will be moderated by senior journalist Sunanda Hettiarachchi, former director – Channel Eye.
